Adventures in Organic Flower-growing.
Organic flower gardening and market gardening are really the true roots of all growing methods. Until the early 20th Century, when chemical-based, mass production methods were introduced, the main way to propagate and grow food and plants was by natural means.
In general terms, organic horticulture involves natural processes, often taking place over extended periods of time, and a holistic approach - while chemical-based horticulture focuses on immediate, isolated effects and reductionist strategies. All the organic food at the local health food stores looks great and tastes great, it is always fresh. Organic horticulture relies heavily on the natural breakdown of organic matter, using techniques like green manure, the application of rotted animal manures and compost, to replace nutrients taken from the soil by previous crops. Please, if you can, set up a community garden in your area using organic flower-growing methods.
